Paint Thickness Measurement
Paint layer measurement serves as a guide for assessing the vehicle's condition and potential repainting.
Please note that these are approximate values. The measured paint thicknesses can vary depending on the vehicle, component, and manufacturer. Different values do not necessarily mean that there is damage or a repair.
What do the values mean?
✅ Original paint (from factory)
approx. 75 – 175 µm (partially up to ~180 µm)
- German vehicles are often painted a bit thicker than Japanese ones
- Important: Consistent values are crucial
⚠️ Repainted (slight to normal)
approx. 176 – 250 µm
- Typical for minor work such as: scratches, Smart Repair, bumpers or fenders
❌ Clearly repainted / repaired
approx. 251 – 999 µm
- Clear indication of more extensive work
-
Often visually clean, but no longer original paintwork
Important notes
- Measurements are taken by random sampling and without disassembling components
- Deviations between individual body parts are common
- Factory paint differences are also possible
- Paint layer measurement does not guarantee that the vehicle is accident-free
